The Wildlife Death Toll….Thus Far
Eighteen birds, 87 sea turtles, 6 dolphins have been recovered dead. Seven birds have been treated and two have been released.
Of course this doesn’t count those creatures whose dead bodies were not recovered. The Gulf of Mexico is a big body of water. I would say it is safe to estimate this is a fraction of the true loss of life thus far.
People are busy filing claims for loss to their businesses and for cleanup costs but I wonder who will file a claim on behalf of the wildlife. Who will step forward and demand that wildlife are reimbursed for their loss? Who will speak for them?

I am so sorry for these innocent animals. Cannot imagine what it would be like to breathe oil and fumes from the chemicals involved in “clean-up”. I don’t understand why they don’t take the advice of the farmer who suggested using hay which soaks up the spill and causes no damage to the enviroment.
